It’s marvellous being home! The snowdrops are fantastic (at least as good as Altamont Gardens, I reckon). They have spread all around the shrubbery and vegetable garden, and cover both sides of the drive down to the road. The daffodils are strewn all over the gardens and coming up with lots of buds, promising to give a gorgeous display in March.
India, where I was volunteering, was a very worthwhile project, and I’m glad I went, but it seemed a long time and for the first time ever we had to farm most of the animals out to friends and stables. They were all well-cared for, and the dogs in particular were happy with friends who showed them love and care during the terrible weather in Ireland in January.
I realised when I was in India that I’d forgotten to update the calendar on the Homeaway website for this year! There were no rates, no dates, and in India it was difficult to get wi-fi, so there was little I could do about it for a few days. But we can’t be perfect all of the time..and it’s sorted now.
People are starting to advertise local events like the Kilkenny Arts Festival, which is a sign that spring approaches… I find it amazing that even in all the bad weather (and floods on lower ground) the birds never seem to stop singing.
And our caterers are getting ready for our new enterprise this summer!
Last year we were at a few local events , and the food was unusually delicious and beautifully presented. I found that two caterers were responsible for most of these events, and had an idea… . if a guest would like a special meal ordered in advance to eat in on a certain evening, perhaps one of them might be prepared to cook a high-quality dinner and deliver it to the Loft or Mews ahead of time. To my surprise both caterers were enthusiastic about the idea. So we have decided to go ahead, and I will give the client the caterer’s telephone number, and they can liaise, choose the meal together, and agree on a price. The meal will arrive cooked with accompanying salads/vegetables/side orders. (And if there is a language barrier that makes it difficult to use the phone, we can organise the caterer to meet you in person.)
Sound fun? I think so.
